| HOW MUSIC IS CHOSEN? |
| All
the music played on LandscapeHD must be available in recorded format.
Those artists who wish to present music to LandscapeHD must first make
sure that LandscapeHD can obtain a synchronisation licence from their
record company and a synchronisation licence from their music publisher.
This allows LandscapeHD to make and broadcast the film production that it
will make in conjunction with your music anywhere in the world. The
artist receives a nominal synchronisation fee, plus an on-screen credit
together with details of the record label, whilst the publisher receives
performance royalties paid through the local performing rights
societies. LandscapeHD invests in 100% of the production costs and
guarantees to broadcast the production on its own network at no risk to
artist, record company or publisher. LandscapeHD does not sell its
programming to other networks and does not allow its productions to be
used for any other purpose other than use by LandscapeHD throughout the
world. The rights granted under the licence allow LandscapeHD to market and sell LandscapeHD videos, dvd's and compilation cd's should demand materialise for any particular track. These rights are permanent and do not revert back to the owner since LandscapeHD often invests more in the film production of a single music track than the publisher or record company invest in a whole album. Should a track be released at a later date, as a compilation, LandscapeHD pays royalties based upon normal recording industry rates, depending upon whether the music in question was a top 40 hit or not. Since very little music in the instrumental music world achieve such high recognition most LandscapeHD tracks are negotiated at a standard rate where everyone is paid at the same rate. |
| WHAT IS THE PROCESS OF MAKING A LANDSCAPEHD FILM? |
| Once
the artists, record company and publisher has agreed upon the basic
principals of rights clearance the process of making a LandscapeHD film is
quite simple. Firstly a copy of the recorded CD must be sent to the head
of programming in the UK. Music will only be considered if
world-wide broadcast can be cleared. The production department know
which record companies and publishers have agreed to terms in principal
and will not get involved in detailed discussions prior to agreement to
our template agreement. Once the rights are cleared the production department are the ones who make the decisions regarding which music to use. They schedule filming and co-ordinate directors and budgets. This process usuually takes several months from start to first broadcast. All elements of the production are within the control of the production department and there is no artistic control other than that exercised by LandscapeHD since they take the view that the investment they make in production should be under our their control. LandscapeHD does not usually use any outside productions unless it has exclusive use and can come to a financial arrangement to cover this. |
| WHO CHOOSES THE MUSIC? |
| The production department makes all decisions relating to the choice of music |
| WHO CHOOSES THE PICTURES? |
| Each
production has an appointed director chosen by the production
department. LandscapeHD seek to use freelance directors most of the time
who express an interest in the music being used. The director will
choose the shots and work with the production department to produce a
finished film within an agreed budget. LandscapeHD usually provides all facilities including cameras and editing studios. Unlike the Pop world, LandscapeHD works in a film medium and therefore seeks to provide programming to a high quality finish. Many of the directors LandscapeHD work with also work in the advertising world or have obtained their first big break working on a LandscapeHD film. |
| WHERE DO LANDSCAPEHD FILM? |
| Once a budget has been agreed with a director LandscapeHD can film anywhere in the world. Making a LandscapeHD film is about seeking to put pictures with music in a way that is sympathetic to the music and enhances it as an audio-visual experience. The only limitation LandscapeHD have is budget. However as LandscapeHD grows into more and more countries, it hopes to be able to film in every country broadcast as well as many others. |
| WHAT EQUIPMENT DO LANDSCAPEHD USE? |
| LandscapeHD originally used super16mm film or 35mm film as the source material on 95% of all productions. LandscapeHD occasionally buy in a small amount of video source material if it is of stunning quality or the sort of material they cannot shoot themselves (such as space footage). LandscapeHD are now using F900 HDCam for new film productions. |
| WHICH COMES FIRST THE MUSIC OR THE PICTURES? |
| The music comes first. LandscapeHD is a music television network. LandscapeHD start with the music and then make a production that is sympathetic to it. |
